Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 2024
At Coedit.io, we are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we handle your data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our collaborative online code editor. By using Coedit.io, you agree to the terms outlined in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
We collect minimal information necessary to provide and improve our service:
- Session Information: When you create a code session, we generate a random session ID and store it anonymously. This ID is used to manage the session and allow invited collaborators to join.
- Collaborative Editing: When you invite others to collaborate via a session link, they can participate in the editing process using the randomly generated code in the link. No personal information is required to access a session.
- Cookies: We use cookies to store anonymous session IDs and other data necessary to keep the state of the app running smoothly (see our Cookie Policy). These cookies do not track any personal information.
2. How We Use and Process Your Code
- Client-Side Processing: All code editing and processing happens entirely on your computer (the client). Coedit.io does not store or save your code on any server.
- No Code Storage: We do not store the code you edit or create on our servers. The content of the sessions is only available to you and your invited collaborators during an active session.
- No Sharing of Code: We do not share your code with anyone. The only people who can access the session are those with the session link that you provide.
- WebSocket Server for Collaboration: To enable real-time collaborative editing, we use a WebSocket server to distribute changes between clients. This server only facilitates communication between collaborators and does not store or retain any of the code being edited.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the minimal information we collect in the following ways:
- To Provide the Service: We use session information to manage and maintain your collaborative code editing sessions.
- To Improve Functionality: We may analyze anonymous usage data to understand how our platform is used and to improve the user experience.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not share, sell, or disclose any personal information or session data with third parties except in the following cases:
- Legal Compliance: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g., a court or government agency).
5. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your data from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. However, no method of transmission over the internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
6. Your Privacy Choices
- Anonymous Participation: Coedit.io does not require personal information for users to participate in a session.
- Session Links: You control who can access your code editing sessions by sharing the unique link. Anyone with the link can join, so share it responsibly.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the effective date at the top of the policy. Please review this policy periodically for any updates.
